EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

According to one analysis, in the last decade, blacks have lost more than two trillion dollars in income due to the earnings gap, excessive unemployment and over-incarceration relative to whites (see the NERA Economic Consulting unpublished study entitled Race and Justice dated July 13, 2006). To increase the likelihood of young black men becoming self-sufficient, contributing members of society, we must create job training and opportunities for sustainable employment in underserved areas that have been long abandoned by large numbers of low-skilled, manufacturing jobs.
